Public pension fund management is divided in to several parts. The first paper hightlights the need for transperency and accountability in the management of public funds. If public funds do not have the confidence and support of those for whom they are established they are unlikely to succeed; it also points out that public awareness of and interest in the fund is probably the best discipline for such funds, and that transperency and accountablity in themselves can create demand for good overall governance. The second part discusses the implementation of the governance, accountability, and investment policy model adopted by Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Board.
