This book deals with ‘spoken idioms’. What we mean by a spoken idiom is a phrase that you will often hear people use in conversation, but that you are slightly less likely to see written down. The phrases that are dealt with in the book are commonly heard in conversation in English. They are useful to learners who want to speak English naturally and fl7uently like native speakers. The book is intended for intermediate learners. The idioms are listed in alphabetical order. A short explanation of each idiom is given, followed by two or more example sentences showing how the idiom is used. Each expression is then presented in an everyday or humorous situation illustrated by a set of four cartoons with captions or dialogue. The aim is to increase learners’ confidence and ability to use them in different contexts
